READING CORNER: GOOD READS ON MINDSET

Some of my happiest moments are spent reading. Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite places to go to relax and get lost in books. I often feel like there are so many great books out there and not enough time to read them all. Especially now that I have an almost 3 year old. Being a working mom I no longer have the time to sit in Barnes & Noble all day.

It's a been a process learning to take time for myself to do what I love and I still have a lot to work on.

Getting a library card was one of the best choices I made last year. Not only does it save me money but I'm also able to check out eBooks. I've been knocking out books from left to right lol! All types of books from science, to fiction, philosophy, psychology, fantasy and adventure. I can go on and on. I just love to read and I hope to share my love of reading with you!

Keep reading to see some of the books I've read recently and in past years on mindset.

A Curious Mind by Brian Grazer and Charles Fishman

This book was one of my first reads of 2018. Brian Grazer discusses how curiosity has shaped his life and the power of asking questions. It's a good read for teenagers to adults that can change how you interact with friends, family, and also change the way you do business. Though at times it's a bit repetitive, I felt Brian did a great job at explaining the importance of curiosity. My key take away from this book that I implemented into my life is Brian's "Curiosity Conversations".

“Life isn’t about finding the answers, it’s about asking the questions.” - Brian Grazer

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up by Marie Kondo

This book caught my attention at the right time. Before I moved to Sacramento I got rid of almost everything I owned. I just wanted to start fresh with everything! Now with my son I need to declutter again. I have a bad habit of accepting things from people that I don't want and know we won't use. Not to mention everywhere we go someone is giving my son a toy or gift. Plus I was brought up with this frugal mindset and making do as long as it's functional( a habit I'm slowly doing a way with). Long story short although I didn't agree with everything in this book. I thought it was a great and helpful read.

This book reminded me that life is simpler with fewer possessions. Get unburdened so that you can spend time doing other things.

The Tools by Phil Stutz & Barry Michels

I bought this book from the Dollar Tree for $1. The first few chapters were great. However, I have to be honest and tell you I could never finish reading it for some reason. Even so it list good tools that are often helpful.

Mindset by Carol S. Dweck

Mindset was one of my best reads from 2016. This book explains how what you believe affects what you achieve. Also your environment, parents and teachers have a huge influence on your mindset, habits and attitude. I loved everything about this book and Carol Dwecks explanations on the growth and fixed mindsets.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

One of the best personal development books. About developing a core set of values and learning to solve personal and professional problems in a consistent and sensible fashion. Depending on what season you're in personally, you may have different takes on this book.

Subliminal : How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior By Leonard Miodinow

I really love reading books on how the mind works. I picked up this book because of similarities to a book I read called Incognito by David Eagleman. I recommend it to anyone with interest in how the mind works and how our unconscious influences our lives.

What are some of the books you like regarding mindset?
